Collection: Carnelian Agate
Carnelian Agate is a red and orange colored chalcedony. It gets its color from iron oxide. Today, most Carnelian comes from Botswana, Brazil, and India.
Agate is a type of translucent chalcedony, a subtype of microcrystalline quartz. It is known for multi-colored circular banding. The banding forms from silica rich minerals in groundwater filling open cavities within rock. This deposits crystals along the walls of cavity. The impurities within the minerals create the rings, cracks, and unique colors in the agate. Agate can have many different colors.
As agate forms along walls of open cavities in rock, it commonly occurs on fossils.
